Fairy Tales / Culture

Homework: Period B (Friday 9th December) Period G (Monday 12th December)

We have been studying fairy tales from around the world and looking at cultural references.

For homework, I would like you to research the country you chose and find out about the culture in that country. You have been given a worksheet to complete.

Some websites that might help you: www.google.com; www.wikipedia.com

Please do not copy from the Internet - it should be in your own words.

Next week we will start to write our own fairy tales, using cultural references from the country you chose.

This week's lunar eclipse

Good afternoon students!

If there’s a clear sky, there will be a total lunar eclipse on Saturday, December 10, completely visible from Vietnam.

Why not look up into the sky and see what you can see!

Snow pictures from our Pen Pals!

Fairy Tales

Today we started to learn about Fairy Tales. Can you tell me some Fairy Tales from your home country? What characteristics tell you that they are Fairy Tales?

Magic?
Royalty?
Animals?
Witches?
Good and bad?

It will be interesting to compare fairy tales from different countries!

Here are some of my favourites...

But here is my all time favourite! My mum used to read this to me at Christmas time and I cried every single time she read it to me :'( (But only because it's a beautiful story)

Happy Teachers!

Miss Stacia and I were over the moon (what does this mean?) to receive a flower from Daily.

What a thoughtful gesture :)

Readers' Workshop Speech Q1

Dear students

You will be making a short speech next week about your favourite book you have read so far this (academic) year.

You need to include the following points in your speech:

  1. Short summary of your book (no longer than 1 minute)
  2. Choose 5 objects which are important to your book and explain why they are important
  3. Recommend your book to a type of person and explain why they'd like it

Explanations:
1. What should be in a summary? Characters, setting, plot
2. 5 real life objects.
3. For example - Grade 6 students would like this book because it is age-appropriate and it is set in a middle school.

Quiz (Prejudice)

We are studying about prejudice at the moment, both causes of prejudice and the solutions.

We will have a quiz next week about this topic. You will read a story about prejudice and answer comprehension questions about it.

You should be confident about what prejudice is.
